So I've got a few questions about a Henry Clay presidency, since I'm going to have one in my High On A Mountaintop TL.

My most important questions:
-I know the race was close, so would Clay have to sacrifice one of the ideals he was running on to win? (I.E., agree to annex Oregon at least?)

-How would Congress change in the event of his presidency, and what would it focus on?

-Would Polk play a role in politics after he's defeated?

-Without the Mexican-American War, how would the North-South dynamics be changed?

-Since President John Tyler was the actual president who signed the bill for the annexation of Texas, would it still proceed as OTL? If the Texans tried to haggle, would the non-expansionists block it's entry into the Union?

-I assume that everyone in the nation would still want the Mormons out as soon as possible (and the Mormons would want to leave as soon as possible), but without the Mexican-American War going on, would the circumstances of the Mormon Trail be different?

-What wars would the US be involved in, if not against Mexico?
