Questions about a Henry Clay presidency.

So I've got a few questions about a Henry Clay presidency, since I'm going to have one in my High On A Mountaintop TL.

My most important questions:
-I know the race was close, so would Clay have to sacrifice one of the ideals he was running on to win? (I.E., agree to annex Oregon at least?)

-How would Congress change in the event of his presidency, and what would it focus on?

-Would Polk play a role in politics after he's defeated?

-Without the Mexican-American War, how would the North-South dynamics be changed?

-Since President John Tyler was the actual president who signed the bill for the annexation of Texas, would it still proceed as OTL? If the Texans tried to haggle, would the non-expansionists block it's entry into the Union?

-I assume that everyone in the nation would still want the Mormons out as soon as possible (and the Mormons would want to leave as soon as possible), but without the Mexican-American War going on, would the circumstances of the Mormon Trail be different?

-What wars would the US be involved in, if not against Mexico?

I know it's bad form to bump this so early, but in any case, I do have one further question: What would Mexico be doing around this time? What would Santa Anna be up to at this point (1844)?

Probably about the same as OTL. He held power briefly in 1844, but his tax increases etc were unpopular and he was overthrown.

OTL, he came back in 1847, but that was in large part due to the war, so may not happen TTL.

In this ATL, he probably wouldn't rise to power as he did? Who would likely be in power instead? Would the Mexicans still enact rebellion-worthy laws/taxes? I need a reason for the Mormons in Deseret and the Californians to revolt against the Mexican goverment.

Going back to my OP, during the Clay presidency, would there still be movements towards annexing Oregon as in OTL Polk's presidency?

Would the US be in a position to look southward towards the Caribbean to satisfy the expansionist movement? (I.E. Cuba?)

How would the expansionists view a massive rebellion happening in the northern territories of Mexico while they can't do a thing about it? How would they probably view California, Deseret, and (possibly) a still-independent Texas?
