Question- why aren't Church's Rangers recognised as much as Rogers' Rangers ?

OK, from most texts I've read on the US Army Rangers specifically, together with generally on light infantry, special operations forces, long range pentration units etc- Rogers' Rangers seem to be recognised as the main elite regt- based on their outstanding service in the FIW- from which the contemporary Rangers claim ancestry- as opposed to the older body of Church's Rangers who were famous for their exploits fightin Indians in Metacom's War (1675-76). Now, why aren't the latter older Ranger outfit recognised to a greater extent as ancestors of the contemporary Rangers ?

My personal suspect in the matter is Kenneth Roberts.

"You are correct sir."

Rogers Standing Orders got incorporated into the Army Rangers manuals because one of the officers was a huge fan of Roberts' novel.

Note that the original Standing Orders are not part of the manuals. Roberts's version of the Standing Orders was what's incorporated.

Roberts rewrote the Standing Orders from slightly formal style to a deliberate imitation of the country bumpkin/tall tales style of speech.
