Question: Possibility of State-Sponsored Fast-food monopoly?

I was rewatching a old Dystopian movie from 90s. In the Dystopian movie, it had a government/state sponsored Fast-Food Chain, that monopolized the entire restaurant market, wiping out their competitors, and moved into fine-dining to casual-dining, becoming the sole restaurant in the country.

So, the hypothetical question is, in any realistic scenario, what is the possibility, for whatever reason, of a government/state (Dictatorship (Probably most likely one), Republic, Monarchy, ETC) sponsoring a Fast-Food chain monopoly, that becomes the sole-restaurant chain in the country*?

*Sidenote: when I say country, I don’t mean just the USA. It can any modern country.

Sounds like something North Korea would do to show to their people how modern their country is and how good they have it. Basically like Pyongwha Motors, a domestic auto manufacturer that builds a few hundred knockoffs of foreign cars each year yet has advertising and even a huge dealership in Pyongyang that's open to tourists. Although even there I'd think they'd brand their chain under a few different names to give the illusion of choice.

It's possible. In Ontario we have a kind of government monopoly on alcohol distribution through a store called the LCBO. I'm sure something similar could be set up for fast food.

The GDR - selfframing as 'only' socialistic instead (fully) communist - almost achieved something alike.
With its "HO" ('Handelsorganisation' = Trading Organisation) it controlled the distribution of food almost completly. Beside running also almost all major Hotels ("Interhotel") it run many restaurants as well - like the 'chain' "Gastmahl des Meeres" or 'Feast of the Sea' for fish-restaurants.

Same thing here in Virginia, though the monopoly is limited to just spirits.

There even WAS some "state sponsored" fast-food​

the Ketwurst , a mixture between Hotdog and Curry.sausage (Curry-Wurst, typical german fast food)​

and​

the Grilletta, a kinda "cheap" version of an hamburger but with the ratehr deminished means of the GDR (i.e. no 'special' buns)​

But yes, it does seem the most likely if a fast-food monopoly that takes over the market, get sponsored from a dictatorship, as either an slow-economic reform or just self-promotion

Considering they have a closed duty free store for church officials inside the vatican, they already have some kind of similar structure in place.
Also, many places have chains of state owned cantina-like restaurants with subsidized prices, doesn't that count?

While very interesting information, I’m more asking could National Government sponsor State-ran Restaurant monopolies that becomes the main franchise in the nation.

I’ll give you a fictional example from a movie, like if the State of California sponsored a Mexican Restaurant to becomes the dominant chain restaurant, that also does fine-dining and fast-food, in the nation.

But that’s just a crazier, unrealistic example. I’m asking how realistic could a government sponsor a fast-food franchise
