question on Russian Revolution

Was Lenin's arrival really that significant? In terms of significance I mean Is his presence necessary for the revolution to go as far as it did in succeeding and forming the USSR?

I know his absence would be another story and another question altogether, but that interests me as well.

Almost certainly. Prior to his arrival the Bolsheviks were willing to cooperate with the Provisional Government, at least initially. Now, there's no reason to discount a falling-out later, but at a later point, who knows how it would stand and if Kerensky's government would be as easily overthrown?
