-Let's say a personality change means he doesn't attempt to reform Egyptian religion
-Or his elder brother Thutmose doesn't die and becomes Pharaoh.
-How much of subsequent history changes?
-Did this rupture with Egyptian religion affect the pharaoh's standing in the long run in the eyes of Egyptians? There are theories that suggest the prestige of the pharaohs was impacted and they were no longer seen as intermediaries with the gods, but rather a more personal worship of the Egyptian gods began.
-Does monotheism still exist in its present form today? (Did Atenism impact Judaism/Christianity?)
-Is Egypt's standing greatly strengthened in the short run? How much negative impact did Akhenaten's antics have on Egypt's stability/military/economic power/foreign affairs?
-Does this delay or even butterfly away the New Kingdom's collapse? If Egypt can get a better foothold in Syria and gain long term access to resources there (iron), could the Kingdom survive?
