Question on Netherlands politics during Aceh War

The Liberals were in charge during the entire span of Acehnese War. It was a grinding affair that was resented by public opinion at home and in general was poorly executed. It was received coldly when finally it ended in phyrric victory IOTL, but I can see it might have saved the ruling party. Or did it not ? Were they too strong to be brought down with Aceh, or will the conservatives launch into power immediately had it been lost ?

No way Aceh will win on her own. Obviously it will involve Turkish reinforcement. It will be a victory for Pan-Islamism and it will affect the opinions and aspirations of the native East Indian muslims. How will the Dutch later handle the rising Indonesian Islamist confidence ? Suppress it ? Or coopt it ?

Actualy I don't think Aceh was that important for the Dutch government. Internal Dutch politics was far more important than whatever happened in a far away colony. Especialy considering it was the KNIL, the Dutch colonial army, that was fighting in Indonesia, not the Dutch army itself. It wouldn't be a cause of a government collapse.

That's not true.

The war lasted from 1873 to 1904 and there was a Liberal PM (Prime minster) only during 1873-1874, 1877-1879, 1891-1901.

There was a conservative PM from 1874-1877 and 1883-1888 and a confessional (different kind of conservative IMO :p) PM from 1879-1883, 1888-1891 and 1901-1904.
