Question: is there an Iconic Union Jack flag raising in WW2?

As in the Title, is there an iconic photo of the Union Jack in ww2 similar or equivalent to the flying of the red banner over the Reichstag or the raising of the stars & stripes at Iwo Jima

For some members of 21 Army Group it was seeing the Germans trapped in Dunkirk in August/September 1944. Huddled among the ruins near the beach. 'Wheres your evacuation Jerry?'

I think Tripoli is the only example where the British conquered any territory and could hoist their own flag, like the Soviets did at Berlin and the Americans at Iwo Jima.

Its not like they could raise it in Paris or Rome.

France liberated itself. Italy and West Germany became allies. Egypt and Libya (and Burma, Singapore and Malaya) became independent.

Where, post-war, can that imagery be used without being counterproductive to the post-war needs of Britain?

Iconic if you're from Jersey, maybe. There weren't really any battles with the emotional resonance of Berlin or Iwo Jima.

France liberated itself? On what planet? On this one it was liberated mainly by Anglo-American troops following D-Day.

On the planet of post-war alliances. If you want France to not turn Communist, you big up De Gaulle and the liberation of Paris by French troops and don't challenge the narrative with off-message imagery.

I don't think even the average Frenchman bought that one.
