Question: French language in Louisiana State?

At what point did the French language/Cajun French cease being the most spoken language in the state (not territory) of Louisiana, and does anyone have accurate demographics of the decline through the years in percentage?

Thank you

If think we can wonder if french was at some point the first language in Louisiana : past coastal and river towns, that weren't that much inhabited at first (in 1750's, around 3 200 inh.), then recieving a large non-francophone population ( in 1820's 41 000, the growth coming from both Antillas, slaves and slaveholders, and from non-french speaking migrants)...

If it happen, I'm not sure it wasn't only for a short time, between native language dominance and english.

French became "dead" the moment US bought Louisiana from France. The State of Louisiana was one of the first to have an official language "English". The American was to make sure the people living there knew right away that English was the lingua franca and more importantly commerce and power.
