Question for a FDR replacement

I have a question on a project that I am just starting. I need a replacement for FDR as president, he will not be seeking reelection in 1940. I want someone reasonable, that was against the new deal but favored aiding the allies. They will be a one term pres. Thanks

Did Wendell Wilkie split with FDR over the New Deal? I think so; I know he was an internationalist. So, depending on when his split and nomination byt he Republicans came, you could have him.

Since FDR's health wasn't always the best, perhaps he suffers a small heart attack (a la Ike in '55) in 1939. While he recovers,t he stress of the war is such he knows he needs someone else to run in his stead. Enter Wilkie, who is promised FDR's support. Wilkie therefore runs against either one of the two possible Republican frontrunners before Wilkie got the nod instead.

Problem is Wilkie died late in '44 OTL, but you could argue that being President he gets a routine checkup that catches something and this lets him live a few months longer, enough to serve out a tgerm but lets someone else win the '44 election.

Wendell Willkie could win instead of FDR. Not sure if you are looking for a Democrat though, Willkie was a Republican and ran against FDR in 1940 IRL.

Willkie had previously been a Democrat.

For an internationalist? I propose Secretary of State Cordel Hull. He was one of the guys angling to get the nomination, along with VP Jack Garner and Postmaster General Farley, until FDR himself stepped in.

Thanks. Wilkie will work very nicely. I would not have needed to post this tread, but I misread the article on wikipedia on him.

Wilkie probably wouldn't have defeated the Democratic nominee, and he wouldn't have beaten the plethora of strong members of the Administration if he ran for the Democratic nomination.
