Question: B-29 production statistics

Did some one know how many B-29 were available at December 44/ January 45 ?

Well a 1000 had been built by Feb 1945 but they only launched their first raids (From India) in April (about 100 aircraft available)

So I think the answer would be 'not many' - certainly not many aircraft and crews would be combat ready

Interesting aircraft - apparently in order to prevent the engines from overheating during take off, activities like magneto drop checks where conducted during the take off run -on other aircraft this would be done after running up the engines.

B29 Crews as describe flight after takeoff as being an urgent struggle for airspeed in order to provide air cooling over the engines rather than attempting to climb as would normally be the case with other aircraft designs.

This should give you an indications of the complex issues experienced by B29 units in 1944 and early 1945 before it matured into the great bomber it became.

I would suggest that in the time frame you are suggesting it would be available in very small numbers for combat missions with selected crews etc

This website has statistics on just about every major piece of military equipment accepted by the United States during World War II (and lots of other information too). There's even a page on heavy bomber acceptance rates. Totaling them up, there would have been 1,253 bombers accepted for the USAAF by January 1945.
