Hello everyone,

I have a quick question: I was reading the account of the conquest of Mexico by Bernal Diaz and something struck me: the leaders of cities seem to be fast to accept Charles Quint as their ruler. From the account, the conquistadores ask and the cities are like "yeah sure, why not" which strikes me as weird.

So, is this
a) my European perspective where this would have been a big deal with fealty and it's just not that big in Mexican culture
b) distorted account from one particular point of view occulting things?

B) would surprise me a bit as Bernal seems quite honest in what happened, it's not just glorious heroes and fair ladies, especially if you read through the lines.

Any idea?
