Question about soviet controlled northern japan

in scenarios where the soviets somehow occupy hokkaido and northern honshu, is it at all plausible that they might annex Hokkaido?

several scenarios i was thinking about:

1) the soviets occupy only hokkaido; it becomes a puppet

2) the soviets occupy only hokkaido; it is annexed

3) the soviets occupy hokkaido and northern honshu; both are formed as a single puppet. this is probably the most common scenario

4) the soviets occupy hokkaido and northern honshu; hokkaido is annexed while northern honshu becomes a puppet. would the northern honshu puppet be ticked that hokkaido has been removed from japan politically? Hokkaido i beleive is somewhat culturally and ethnically different from the rest of Japan. Would this help justify its departure from the other main islands politically?

5) the soviets occupy hokkaido and northern honshu; they each become separate puppets. would this make any sense or benefit the soviet management of these two puppets?

any thoughts?

They'd probably puppetize it but the population is so small that they could wield very direct control over it. They'd probably also have a base or two there to counter the American bases that would inevitably be in South Japan.

Of course, whether or not the Soviets have the naval and air capacity to actually take and hold the island is another story.

Well, the most plausible is that US still occup southern Japan as a gigantic aircraft carrier...

If it's that, I think there's two possibilities.

1)If USSR have all of Korea : Northern Japan became a popular republic.

2)If USSR have only North Korea : Northern Japan is finlandised.
You'll have some soviet naval bases, but nothing more as the korean border (critically naval) would be already a mess to defend and defending N.Japan against S.Japan would be far more difficult.

Of course, it's if soviet military act rationally : some can think they can handle that nevertheless and push for the first solution anyway. It's possible.

I think they'd turn it into the Soviet Republic of Japan which'd claim to be the only legitimate Japanese government, instead of annexing it.
