Question about 1930's anglo-french relations

Let's say that in mid 1930's there is a conservative but not batshit crazy government in Berlin. The Chancellor is a smart and wily guy, let's call him Bismark Mk2.

What can the german government do to drive a wedge between the french and british, with the final purpose of an franco-german alliance like one started between de Gaulle and Adenauer and continued later on? I am certain that there are issues (that IOTL were shelved in the shadow of german increasing assertiveness) that ITTL remain instead around as flashpoints.

A smart chancellor could well make difficulties between the French and British but I don't think they could totally ruin the relationship. I can't see a realistic scenario where the French aren't more worried about the Germans than the British.

How about a Socialist Revolution in Britain?

The proposition of a red (or at least pink) Britain is extremely intriguing. I have no doubt that the french industrialists/bankers, right wing politicians and armed forces top brass would consider some kind of action to "save" France from that worse-than-death :D fate, especially with Mussolini's Marcia su Roma as a blueprint.

The problem is the chain of events that such POD creates:

  1. by late 1930's, most of Europe is fascist or at least right wing authoritarian (Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, ~Poland, Hungary, Greece)
  2. a Europe-wide anti-Comintern pact ensues
  3. with a socialist Britain, the British Empire melts down and the US become deeply anti-british (and likely gulps Canada)
  4. a quick renewed scramble to Africa ensues to scavenge ex-british colonies and, when it is over...
  5. ...inevitably a crusade against Soviet Union, with a neutered Britain and a at best neutral if not overtly anti-soviet US takes place and, with all Europe resources/economies and population mobilized, without a second front, without blockade and bombing campaign I see no hope of survival for Soviet Union.
This does make an interesting and thouroughly dystopian timeline, but it is not what I was looking for (i.e. an anglo-french split with the British empire undamaged and the US still a british ally).
