Queen of Denmark appoints US President

Taken from this thread:
Technically, due to a loophole in international law, the President of the United States is lawfully appointed by the Queen of Denmark.
Is there a POD that could lead to this actually happening?

The only thing I can see is that if the US was on the losing side in some total war, and one of the rump puppet states set up afterwards was actually called "the USA" (as opposed to Pacifica, etc., as in The Man in the High Castle), and its administration was left to one of the lesser powers in the anti-American alliance (or a neutral arbiter), i.e. Denmark...

um after the Articles of Confederation the US decides to become a Monarchy and picks King Christian VII of Denmark to be "king" with about the powers that kings/queens of Europe have today. so in 2008 the Queen of Denmark "appoints" the President of the Government of the United States. :p

If we have *America as part of a Danish Empire, then the President of the United States could have a role loosely analogous to that of the Canadian Governor General.

This would leave us with a situation where the President of a neo-Lutheran United States is appointed by the Queen of Denmark, on the advice of the US Statsminister.

*drools* mmmmmm Danish-America:D sadly Denmark really doesn't have enough people to colonize America to OTL's level, it'd be a small nation from New Copenhagen to Christianburg ;)
Forene Stat på Amerika :D:cool::D:cool: YAY! (forgive the REALLY bad Danish)

Canute of Denmark and England (dead 1035 in OTL) lives a little longer and has a heir who takes over and a dynasty and an empire is founded. United by splendid communication across the North Sea and the Baltic Sea and language based on the common tongue spoken around the North Sea at year 1000, it steadily grows.

By 1600 it includes the British Isles, Scandinavia, Netherlands, Lower Saxony, Pommerania, Prussia, Kurland, Livonia, Finland and soon after small settlements in North America.

By 1800 the colonies in North America have tried to gain independence in armed rebellion, but are defeated. They do achieve wideranged autonomy for the individual states however.

In the 1860s American nationalists, the socalled Federalists, try to gather the states in a stronger bond, but are defeated in a very bloody civil war by the Konfederalists supported by troops from the Empire.

The new constitution confirms the autonomy of the individual states and the President of the United States of America is a mainly ceremonial function and is appointed by the ruling Monarch of Denmark, who according to the constitution also is the First of Equals in the Royal Combined Council of Commerce, as the Empire calls itself by 2008.

In 2009 the ruling Monarch, Margrethe II appoints Robert Lee the VI as President of USA and thereby confirming the tradition of the decendants of Robert Lee the Great taking up this post.

The cheating answer, Danmark support US independence due to [insert reason] and gets invited to the inaguration. Travel was much harder back then so the US is impressed. The queen is honoured by preforming the swearing in cermony instead of the supreme cort head judge.
Tradition continues...

that's a cool timeline, but how did Denmark get the Netherlands?

With Danes-Brittons (Dantons, Branes?) ruling the sea beyond the Dutch coast I guess there is no way around seeking into the Empire for a trading people. If you can't beat them - join 'em!

The starting point point could be a Danish-British supported Dutch rebellion against their Habsburg rulers, and the Dutch being offered a (junior) partnership in the emerging Danish-British(-Hansa) merchant's empire.

Later the French will be a main opponent, and Flanders and Netherlands the gold nuggets over which numerous wars will be fought. By 19th century the Royal Combined Council of Commerce (R3C) and the Habsburg Empire are likely allies against a French-Russian coalition.

In 20th century we will see a global war between the R3C and her allies (Austria, Poland, German Konfederate States, Dacia, Greece, Abyssinia (exile gov.), West African Kingdom, South Africa, China, Siam, Konfederation of India, The Earldoms of Vinland (Canada), Venezuela and Colombia on one side vs. France, Italy, Spain (incl. Portugal), Russia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Japan, Panama, Argentina and Brasil.

A large number of American States initially support the French-Russian alliance, but are beaten into neutrality by a swift campaign early in the war from Vinland and supported by R3C armoured columns and the states preferring to maintain the status quo of political isolation but splendid trading.

Of course, in the spirit of this insane thread, we must realize that the fact says "Queen", not "Monarch". If the king is not married, the President cannot be legally appointed.
