Q&A: Any Australian Secession movements after 1860?

Where there any movements in Australia to create autonomous countries on the continent after the Eureka Rebellion of OTL.

There have mainly been attempts, none successful, to convert regions of certain Australian States into new states.

There have been several people who have attempted to start secession movements, such as rich individuals in WA who rant about 'all the minerals income going to the feds' - when you think about this you realise that WA has a negative balance of internal trade - the trains carry loaded containers west and return empty. So secession becomes a bit useless.

The most recent trend has seen both the ACT and NT decide to remain as territories rather then become states because of the large financial support they get from everyone else.

Statehood for these two may have become a pain if the additional senators had unbalanced the Senate one way or the other,

Although you can only really have a secession from Australia after federation, before that, you can easily have the federation project be unsuccessfull in including all the present states.

Western Australia had a movement in the 1930's to become a separate Dominion and in the 1970's some tycoon attempted to push a Westralia movement, but that was barely popular at all.

The Western Australian Referendum on secession in 1933 passed, but in their efforts to become the Dominion of Western Australia, they were refused by London for not having the Commonwealth request it.

Well I was just being flippant really. Technically Hutt River really isn't independent, they have no international recognition, el Presidente whatever his name is subject to Australian law and I vaguely remember the Australian Taxation Office collecting substantial back taxes from the guy. Or trying to?
