So I'm catching up on current events after being on vacation for 2 weeks and I find that it was the 19th anniversary of the Kursk submarine disaster.
At this point Vladimir Putin had only been president for a year and had not consolidated his power. (His wealth came through corrupt political disbursement of state property to what eventually cam to be called the oligarchs.) The Russian populace was very angry over this incident and had all but lost faith in the government's ability to protect and take care of them.
What if Putin had been forced to resign as a result of the public anger? Would that have stopped him from consolidating power and allowed an looks to of another party to flourish? Or would it have just delayed Putin's trajectory?
