Prusso-Swedish Union

I read online that in the early 1700’s that Frederick William I of Prussia was given a choice by his father for brides, and that on that list was Ulrika Eleanora of Sweden. That got me thinking about what if he married her instead of Sophia Dorothea of Hanover. Would Prussia and Sweden form a Union and if so what would the consequences be and would it be accepted by the people of Sweden, or would they turn to Charles of Holstein. I’d imagine Frederick william wouldn’t take that lightly however. Thoughts?

Might it alter the GNW? Karl XII might do his utmost to get the Prussians to declare against the Alliance...is there any chance he'd set the Elector on the Polish throne? If he did, you could hypothetically get a Prusso-Swedish-Polish union in a near-ASB but certainly interesting timeline.

Followed, of course, by everyone marching east to deal with that monster.

He wouldn't get FWI to convert - the man was Calvinist supreme and worried that he was going to Hell. Friedrich I or II - maybe. FWI, no way this side of blue hell. As to him not taking the choice of Karl of Holstein lightly, what grounds is he going to use to block it? OTL, Ulrika was living in Sweden, so she was johnny-on-the-spot as opposed to a foreigner (Karl) and could act. Here, when Carl XII dies, it's gonna be a race to see who can get to Stockholm first, since Brandenburg isn't like Hesse-Kassel where Friedrich I could leave it in his brother's care for months/years at a time while he was away. FWI has no siblings, and his father didn't trust the Schwedt line, so Ulrika is likely going to head for Berlin rather than FWI is to move to Stockholm.

Also, I'm not sure how the Swedes would take to him going "whack whack whack" with his walking stick. He never struck his wife OTL, but his kids, courtiers, people on the sidewalk (maw everyone else) were fair game. Especially if Ulrika winds up as queen regnant here.

The right time for such a union would be around 1630, by a dynastical marriage. When Gustavus Adolphius dies in battle, a great power is born, and all subsequent history will be quite different. With important consequences not only in Europe, but also in very distant parts of the planet.

Well Charles of Holstein was the son of Ulrika’s elder sister so he was higher than her in the Swedish line of succession
