I was thinking about my (probably never happening) Charles V adds Munster and East-Frisia to the Netherlands timeline. While thinking about it I decided to add some butterflies that could happen. One of the things I thought about was a protestant France. I thought it was an interesting idea, even if we ignore the larger Netherlands scenario (which from now on, we do in this post).
How could a protestant France happen with a POD around the middle of the fiftheenth century (or perhaps a bit earlier)? Or at least a France that is as protestant as the Netherlands, with a protestant majority and protestant rule, but a significant catholic minority (preferably treated decently, eventhough not as equals). What kind of protestantism would France convert to? I assume Calvinism, if I remember my history correctly. What kind of differences would a protestant France mean in terms of European politics?
