"Protect and Survive" Speculation Thread

This is the place for any and all speculation relating to all of the various "Protect and Survive" timelines.

If the original author is against this, it can be deleted, of course.

I'll start.

Geopolitically, the balance of power will switch from the devastated Northern Hemisphere down to the less affected Southern Hemisphere. In centuries to come, the surging nations of the South will increasingly impose their will on the recovering North by military means. Whether this will eventually lead to another nuclear war is unclear.

Organized religion will decline greatly worldwide by 2050; by the end of the century, many nations will have adopted a new calendar with 1984 CE designated as "Year Zero" of the New Common Era (NCE).

Humanity will not make it back to the moon before 2300.

How do you suppose that? I would think that, if anything, the number of religious people by percentage would increase following the disaster.

I also do not know why anyone would feel the need to add another period to history. Suddenly adding NCE would cause more confusion than create good. The old system is well established and does not need changed.

Well, I did say organized religion, but it's definitely debatable.

I think a war that nearly destroys civilization will definitely be cause for a new "era" of history. What they call it is irrelevant...and the good thing is, having a Year Zero will fix some dating problems!

On the hand the fact that their is going to be an incredible amount of dislocation anyway may cause people to want to emphasise their remaining links to the past to give them a sence of continuity. The black death didn't lead to the collapse of religion in Europe.

Probably a version of Catholicism. As S. America and Africa are some of the "least" hit areas, and both have large majorities of Catholics, Catholicism will still remain a potent religious force.

Well, okay, let's say organized religion remains a potent force. Which religion is dominant?

Catholicism regains a lot of importance, especially if they managed to evacuate the Archives in time. Unless Rio De Janiero has been nuked, the Church will be temporarily administered from there.
