I was thinking recently about what might have happened if the United States and Soviet Union hadn't stepped back from the brink of nuclear holocaust in February of 1984. If old Sergei hadn't overthrown Ogarkov just hours before the Soviets had scheduled their attack on West Germany to begin...the world probably would have wound up in cinders.

Instead, we got seven years of sort-of-peace...and THEN we blew the world MOSTLY to cinders. Not that it makes much of a difference now, I suppose...
I don't know why I'm feeling compelled now to put this stuff on paper. All most folks care about these days is survival...and rightfully so, given the American and world situation. I suppose I'll leave this stuff for my grandkids...maybe at some point their generation will have the luxury of looking back and thinking about what happened. Who knows.
