Prospects for peaceful return/trade of AL to France post 1895

background- in 1871 Thiers offered to hand over to Germany French Indochina (which at that time only included Cochin Chna and Cambodia) in return for AL. Bismarck turned him down.

Is it remotely concievable that WIlhemine Germany might accept a similiar proposal? possibly including additional/different colonies and/or a free hand in Luxembourg, a partition of Switzerland, support for German claims for Limburg or any other crazy idea you can think of?

1. How much can France conceivably offer?
2. How much would it take to get Wilhelmine Germany to accept?
3. Would France be prepared to accept a plebescite, division according to linguistic zones, limitations of soverignty over the province (Demillitarization, linguistic autonomy, buffer state, Continued German control of Lorraine iron deposits) or are all of the above unacceptable to French public opinion?

Neither side will accept anything less than the acquisition of the entirety of AL. The French see it as entirely theirs and the Germans aren't giving up a good defensive position. The Germans would be more likely to accept a division along linguistic lines since it basically already was, but the French would likely accuse them of rigging all the referendums they lose even if they (somehow) didn't.
