After all, we in the United States have been fighting a War on Drugs now for nearly a century, with just about as little effect on the usage of illegal drugs as the enforcement of the 18th Amendment had on the use of alcohol, so there is no particular reason we could not have continued the equally quixotic quest to ban alcohol as well right up to the present day.
