princess Sophie of Bavaria assassinated in 1853

What would the consequences be if in 1853, instead of trying to assassinate Franz Joseph, or indeed at the same time, as the attempt on Franz Joseph, his mother princess Sophie is assassinated. Thus leaving franz without his mother. What would this change? Franz mother was the big push for the marriage with one of her relations. Without her there, would franz ever consider sissi or her sister? Who might he marry? Would he change as emperor with his mother’s death so early?

Well, Vienna losing the only man in government (as Metternich termed her) could be interesting. She was part of the reason that FJ had such a dislike for Hungarians, preferring Czechs.

The question is, if she's not pushing for her son's marriage to her niece, who does he wed instead? The Prussians scotched his attempts to wed Princess Anna of Prussia, but the chance exists that FJ STILL marries a cousin (perhaps from Saxony or Italy, though)

Hmm interesting, would franz be less aloof? Abd interesting a Saxon or Sardinian princess couldn't be quite interesting

No Sardinian princesses of the same age as FJ. Unless you consider Clotilda of Savoy.

Likewise the Habsburgs in Modena, as well as the Bourbons in Lucca/Parma are chronologically misaligned. Which leaves Maria Annunziata of Sicily (born the same year as Clotilda), Maria Isabella of Tuscany, the dowager princess of Modena (Elisabeth of Hungary, although she married her second husband in April 1854, so she'd probably be out), or her sister, the OTL queen of the Belgians.

How could one get Prussia to agree for Anna of Prussia to marry Franz Joseph

A move away from their pro-Russian to a more Austria-friendly stance? AIUI the Prussians weren't really looking to make friends with Austria at the time, so it would need to be a mothra-sized butterfly.
