Princess Diana lives?

I (was forced to go) went to a Diana exhibit today, I had a simple though really, if Diana lived or avoided the Car accident, what would've happen to the world of today?

Nothing long-term. Are we assuming that Dodi al-Fayed still dies in the tunnel? Perhaps the monarchy is marginally more popular. Whether Charles marries Camilla is open to question.

If Dodi lives and they marry she looses the "princess" and becomes the Lady Diana al-Fayed. I don't see it changing history that much, though having her married to Muslim (or even converting to Islam) would have some very interesting affects on Islamic relations in the UK. Probally positive, but then you could get something really ugly happening like a far-right BNP nutcase assassinating her. If that's not dark enough imagine Harry or William getting caught in the crossfire. On the other hand if she's still alive when William takes the throne he'll probally make her a princess in her own right and give her HRH back.

There would likely be less of an impetus to pass the treaty to ban landmines. "Candle in the Wind" would only be associated with Marilyn Monroe (and maybe Ryan White).
Tony Blair might be a bit less popular...as might Her Majesty...

Who's to say that she and Dodi al-Fayed would've stayed together, though? They could've split up. Hell, she could've even got back together with Hasnat Khan and become Lady Diana Khan.

As for Camilla, I reckon that she and Charles would've gotten married sooner if Diana was still alive. Given that a lot of the public opposition to their marriage was along the lines of "It's an insult to the memory of Diana blah blah blah" they wouldn't have had to wait until 2005 had Diana been around to say, "It's fine by me, honestly, they can get married already!"

the only bright lining to that horrid image, is the idea of Parliament agreeing to have the BNP crushed like the Nazis they {the BNP} wish to be.

The status of her relationship with Dodi is pretty confused - IIRC the Al-Fayeds have tried to rather unsubtley further the idea that the relationship was further along than it was. So it may just be another fling, it may not be.

In a 'Diana lives' scenario, Charles' marriage to Camilla would depend on Charles gaining the support of the Queen and Diana. Charles just wouldn't be able to go with it if Diana publicly opposed it - public opinion would be too hostile. So Diana would need to give it the nod for it to go ahead. I don't see that as being insurmountable - once passions had cooled, and perhaps Diana found some happiness in her own life, I think she would give it the okay.

Diana would continue with her campaigning activities (the big thing before she died was an anti-landmines campaign) and perhaps take on a tinge of the political along the way; she was very friendly with a lot of the big people involved in new Labour, and got on very well with the Blairs IIRC.
