Prime Minister Conrad Black of

Canada or the UK. Go. POD 1990. The longer the better.
Sheesh! What kind of dystopia are you trying to create anyway!? I still remember the column where Barbara claimed that 'the only legitimate purpose of government was to stop people from [spamming] her' (this was unsolicited faxes in the days before the internet). Talk about a couple out of touch with reality!

OK, here's a scenario. In Mrs. Thatcher's 1990 Resignation Honours, she names Black to the Lords. In 1993 he enters the Major Cabinet as Lord Privy Seal. In 1996 named Lord Chancellor. After the defeat, he becomes Lords Leader, and narrowly beats Cameron in the 2005 race. In 2008, he disclaims the peerage, becomes Sir Conrad Black, and wins the election with say, 410 seats against Gordo.

I think this could work, but would anyone like to offer an alternative scenario? It can't be here in Canada because the electorate rejects Blue Tories like the plague.

I think Black has a better shot at getting elected US president than becoming British PM.

All we need is for the US to annex Canada sometime in the timeframe you suggest, retroactively make Canadian citizens 'natural born Americans', and voilà.

The Republicans would be absolutely gagging to give him their nomination. No doubt about it.

Not exactly a dystopia, just another Thatcherite. Unless some consider that dystopic. I certaintly don't...
Well we can disagree on Thatcher, I'm sure, but Maggie had some personal integrity and sense of the common man. The Black/Amiel household was off on their own planet somewhere, totally divorced from things like law and reality.
