Now, I understand the concept of butterflies, but I'd still like to see how every thinks this would play out.
How would American history have proceeded if:
1. The second-place person in every primary from 1948 to 1968 had actually gotten the nomination? I'll make exceptions for extremely unlikely people, and substitute the next most likely.
2. The party that won the election in OTL lost it in TTL, though not necessarily by the same numbers?
As a note, incumbents in OTL are incumbents in TTL, unless they faced strong opposition in OTL.
Looks like the following:
1948: Robert Taft (R-OH) defeats Richard Russell (D-GA)
1952: Estes Kefauver (D-TN) defeats Robert Taft (R)
1956: Estes Kefauver (D) defeats Harold Stassen (R-MN)
1960: Nelson Rockefeller (R-NY) defeats Hubert Humphrey (D-MN)
1964: Nelson Rockefeller (R) defeats Pat Brown (D-CA)
1968: Eugene McCarthy (D-MN) defeats Nelson Rockefeller (R)*
*Yes...somehow the 22nd Amendment is going to have to be taken care of.
What does the above mean for America? What happens next?
