Prevent U.S> Entry into the Vietnam conflict. :A challenge

At it's core the Vietnam conflict was a struggle by the Nationist Vietnamese to gain their own real live country to call their own.

Near the end, by the time the U.S. was forced to become aware of it, the North Vietnamese were Communists on the surface, but nationalists at their core, the Communism was just a nation uniting ethos.

SO, your challenge, should you choose to accept it is to prevent the 12 years that we spent pouring blood nd toil and sweat and tears down a hole to essentially no real purpous by preventing AMerican Entry into the Vietnamese Civil war.

AAAAAAAAND, GO!

Suggestions

1 Keep FDR alive for a full 4th term

He reportedly had a particularly strong dislike for the French colonial empire. He might have pressured the French heavily enough 1945 to 1948 that they wouldn't try to reoccupy Indochina, or wouldn't be able to

2 Keep the war going a while longer. OSS didn't make contact, supply weapons & training, to Ho Chi Minh till about MArch, 1945. A longer collaboration between US & Viet Minh might have given US a more favorable view of Ho's movement

I am not a big fan of extending the war, let's keep FDR alive longer. He was a sweetie.

Ironically a quick US victory in Korea might well encourage this to happen. The USA would not have quite the same apocalyptic approach to Communist strength on the battlefield and might look at Dien Bien Phu as it should have been seen, namely paying the price for underestimating the skill and ability of one's enemies, which could only help the US cause in the Cold War in general.

Maybe McArthur see the light...or more plausible someone force some reason in his thick skull and stop the troops before the Yalu river, promping the chinese intervention.
Results in a rump NK who will probably be absorbed, an enlarged SK and the USA who can safely declare victory over the evil horde of communism.
All that work even if McArthur is sent away for the criminal unreadyness of the troops or for his damned big mounth.
Other PoD included a Eisenowher authorising the use of the A-bomb for relieving the French...ehy with a lot of luck can even work (just in bad fiction i know); the congress don't buy the Golf of Tunking incident or that don't happening (it was really a fortuitos event the first attack)

I like the U.N. Force stopping short of the Yalu thereby averting chinese intervention.

God, MacCarthur really was a complete Fathead, wasn't he?
