Presidet of the CSA: William Jennings Bryan

I was rewatching Inherit the Wind a couple of days ago. Then I imagined William J Bryan as some sort of creatinist President of the Confederate States of America before WW1. Maybe sending the Southern Army to the Middle East to go a a crusade to free the holyland. Thusly maybe opening for a clash between the US and her interests there and the CSA.

Could that be timeline? to start work on?

...Is this thread on drugs?

Quite Possibly.

After all, the CSA surviving, with a politician from Southern Illinois becoming PotCS and then able to project, with what has to be a tiny economy, into the middle of Britain's sphere of influence, and provoking a war against the United States...

This question is a comedy of errors. I suggest moving it to ASB.

I couldn't be bothered googling where Bryan's parents originally were from, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a William Jennings Bryan who ended up in the CSA is going to be much different from OT's Nebraskan politician.

The Populist movement in the South might exist in a independent Southron TL, but then again it may not.

Bryan was a staunch pacifist, against sending soldiers anywhere. Of course his personality could be altered by butterflies.

Pacifist or (somewhat) isolationist?

He volunteered to serve in the Spanish-American War.
