I've been looking into the politics recently of the PRC and noticed that, nominally speaking, since the end of the Civil War there has been a tiny, nominal, opposition coalition made of 8 parties, known collectively as the United front.

Now, I'm wondering, ASBs aside for the possibility of the Chinese Communist Party even really allowing this, if the PRC and Mao allow for a larger, less symbolic, and much more effective, United Front to exist, what form would those eight parties take in the years after? Moreover, how would these parties work? Would they, at least until Mao's death, work in coalition for the most part, sending forth mutually-agreeable candidates for appointment in the various posts leading the National Peoples' Congress, or run heir own with two or three smaller coalitions being formed amongst the parties?

Additionally, should they actually be able to somehow even get anyone into a position of importance on the national stage beyond mere members of the NPC...just who was actually active in this period in the various United Front parties to take up such positions?
