Presidential Numbering

What if the US made a habit of numbering their presidents, like monarchies do with their kings and queens?

I've gone ahead and drawn up a list; for the purposes of this list, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are counted as James and William, respectively:

George I Washington
John I Adams
Thomas I Jefferson
James I Madison
James II Monroe
John II Quincy Adams
Andrew I Jackson
Martin I Van Buren
William I Henry Harrison
John III Tyler
James III K. Polk
Zachary I Taylor
Millard I Fillmore
Franklin I Pierce
James IV Buchanan
Abraham I Lincoln
Andrew II Johnson
Ulysses I S. Grant
Rutherford I B. Hayes
James V A. Garfield
Chester I A. Arthur
Grover I Cleveland
Benjamin I Harrison
Grover I Cleveland
William II McKinley
Theodore I Roosevelt
William III Howard Taft
Woodrow I Wilson
Warren I G. Harding
Calvin I Coolidge
Herbert I Hoover
Franklin II D. Roosevelt
Harry I S. Truman
Dwight I D. Eisenhower
John IV F. Kennedy
Lyndon I B. Johnson
Richard I Nixon
Gerald I Ford
Jimmy VI Carter
Ronald I Reagan
George II H. W. Bush
Bill IV Clinton
George III W. Bush
Barack I Obama

(theodore)roosevelt the rock
obama the hopeful
bush jr the special
ike the liked

anyway, so Cleveland doesnt get a new one when he's reelected?

I dont know if a lot of those people would have gotten numbers. It is fairly common for Monarchs not to be numbered unless there is a second of their name, and this may carry over to presidents.

On the other hand, it could be justified if done correctly. Maybe this pattern starts as one of the precedents set by George Washington (similar to the adress "Mr. President"). Now, as he is the first president (not to mention the first of his name), the for this to take effect he would need a number regardless of position...

No. Americans became pretty much anti-monarchial, remember? Why bring in potential reminders or hints of a return to one?

George I the Great
Abraham the Great
Theodore the Great
Franklin the Great

Thomas the Good

Andrew the Lion

Ulysses the Conqueror

This is very interesting. Even though I didn´t get to rant about the insane numbering of Grover Cleveland as 22nd and 24th.

What if the presidents take new names like the pope?

Cool, but what kind of names would they take? Latin ones?

It would also be fun if they took up titles.

A new list of names with epithets, as well as newly adopted titles in Italics, because I really like this (implausible yet fun) idea:

George the Great, Pater Patria
John the Just
Thomas the Sage, Lictor
James the Short
James II the Good
John II the Younger
Andrew the Brave, Magister Militum
Martin the Foreigner
William the Unfortunate
John III the Accidental
James III the Bold
Zachary the Rough
Millard the Dull
Franklin the Mad
James IV the Weak
Abraham the Liberator, Princeps
Andrew II the Lazy
Ulysses the Warrior
Rutherford the Lucky
James V the Affable
Chester the Gentle
Grover the Obstinate
Benjamin the Cold
Grover the Obstinate (reinstated)
William II the Strong
Theodore the Lion
William III the Fat
Woodrow the Peaceful
Warren the Wobbly
Calvin the Cautious
Herbert the Poor
Franklin II the Wise, Caesar
Harry the Inheritor
Dwight "Ike" the Cyclone
John IV the Young
Lyndon the Calm
Richard the Crafty, Augustus
Gerald the Good
James VI the Kind
Ronald the Magnificent
George II the Elder
William IV the Scandalous
George III the Determined
Barack I the Hopeful

I'd have tio go with William IV the wealthy, you know that whole "bigest surplus in american history" thing. Also instead of Harry the Inheritor it should be Harold the Inheritor
