President Theodore Roosevelt, Senior

Any way to get Thee, OTL's President's father, to be President?

Or are their any examples of this already out there?

He'd probably have to get involved in the ACW a little more. If he were to enlist what sort of role would he get? I think he'd be a good quartermaster or so forth.

Any ideas?

He could marry a different woman but then we have no st. Theodore;)

Or he could just join the army, he was a big supporter of the union despite his wife after all.

I wonder how this would play out in NY politics of the time. Thee certainly has the capital needed to fund a campaign, but how unpopular is the war in NY. (Was it a democratic stronghold?)

If possible he could run for senate or governorship and get either, that could be a starting point after a military career.

The war was unpopular in NYC, but not eveyone was opposed to it.

He would be a strong contendor for Governor against Seymour in '62, being a strong Republican but not a direct symbol of the war. He would get the upstate Republican vote and his philantrophic indentity could make him very popular with the Democratic masses of NYC. Again, funds would not be an issue.

EDIT: But I am still interested in what any of our ACW-philes have to say about what the nature of his service would be if were to fight.

This is very tricky.

He has to marry a different woman that isn't Southern. But if he marries a different woman then there's no Theodore.

If Martha Bulloch Roosevelt dies after 1858 then that could do it, but if she dies before she has Elliot in early 1860 then there is no Eleanor Roosevelt.

Their final child, daughter Corinne, came after the war began. So in this type of scenario she will be butterflied away.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what sort of support the Mrs. offered the CSA? She could be a liability in an election...

Perhaps she does have to pass...
