President Sam Houston

Sam Houston runs for and wins the election of 1852. Could he have helped keep Texas on the Union side when the Civil War begins? Although he was a slaveowner and opposed to the abolitionists, in OT, his refusal to swear loyalty to the Confederacy cost him the governorship of Texas. How would he have fared as President in the 1850s?

Constitutionally I dont think he could have been at that time, he was a citizen of texas till it was annexed, 1845 he would have had to have been a resident for 14 years so not until 1859, the same year he was elected governer of texas

As he was a resident Tennessee for more than fourteen years he meets that clause.
