President Rockefeller

Gerald Ford keeps his promise to not run in the 1976. Nelson Rockefeller seeks the nomination. Does he beat Ronald Reagan? And if he does, wold he have beaten Carter? What would have been the butterflies from a Rockefeller presidency?

Rockefeller would have no chance of beating Reagan in the 1976 GOP primaries. Even Gerald Ford--an incumbent president and much less liberal than Rocky--was insufficiently conservative for nearly half the Republican primary electorate that year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_presidential_primaries,_1976

IMO the only way Rockefeller becomes president is through the death or resignation of a president while Rocky is serving as VP. Of course the two attempts on Gerald Ford's life came close to making him president, but there are other possibilities, such as a successful Nixon-Rockefeller ticket in 1960, or even a Humphrey-Rockefeller ticket in 1968. https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/humphrey-rockefeller-ticket-in-1968.336723/ For that matter, John Sears wanted Rocky as Reagan's running mate in 1976! https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/whos-the-vp.379829/#post-11909568
