So what did you guys think about President Sarah Palin's first State of the Union speech? Of course she started out by invoking the name of her deceased predecessor, and of course the whole nation agrees with her when she said we lost a great leader when John McCain died of a heart attack last June... but what about everything else she said after that? Her remarks on the economy, employment, health care, wars overseas? Her defense of her choice of Bobby Jindal as VP? And looking forward, what are her chances for election in 2012?
Here are some quotes;
"Thankfully I have the right to express my remarks here today to you all as President. This is all thanks to our U.S. military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America's Right to Free Speech."
"We lost a great leader last June and I would like to begin today's speech in the name of our beloved ex-President John McClain--McCain, without whom, believe it or not I, a simple hockey mom from Alaska, would not be standing here before you today. I am sure John's in Heaven now, with Jesus and Ronald Reagan, looking down at us with a smile"
"Only in America can my story happen and when I was told that I can't do this by a chorus of cynics and the mainstream media and staffers from my own campaign, when I got letters from third graders questioning my ability to govern as President, I responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people; You betcha! And for all the simple hockey moms out there in America who are asking "Sarah? If you became President, does that mean that we can too someday?" I have one answer for them - You betcha! Let this be the byword for my administration and the answer to all the problems and difficulties facing America today."
"I inherited this position from a maverick, and as a maverick myself, I picked fellow maverick Bobby Jindal as Vice President. So now you have a maverick President serving alongside a maverick Vice President in what promises to be a maverick administration that runs on maverick energy and that will produce some of the best maverick policies, and that'll ruffle some feathers."
"I thank the patriotic, hardworking people from the pro-America parts of this country for supporting their President and I like to commend the fine people, women and men at the Department of Law and the man at the head of that Department, the Secretary of Law, for working hard protecting my Presidency from the ethics charges that were thrown at me."
"I as your President, stand by my opposition to the health care bill, to veto it for I will not surrender this country to the bureaucratic death panels who would judge my baby with Down syndrome for not having a sufficient level of productivity. Such a system is downright evil. My opposition to healthcare is -- Let me go back to a comfortable analogy for me - sports... basketball. I use it because you're naive if you don't see the national full-court press picking away right now: A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket... and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can WIN."
"The first 100 days of my presidency was the kick in the plan that will get this economy back on the right track because what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, and really shore up the strategies that we need over in Iraq and Iran to win these wars. And don't forget when Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, Where do they go? It's right over the border. Because I agree with the Bush doctrine in some respects, but in some other respects I don't."
"Oil and coal? Of course, it's a fungible commodity and they don't flag, you know, the molecules, where it's going and where it's not. Fungible molecules. Drill, baby drill! My energy policy for this nation is based on these sound principles."
