President Nixon in Dallas

If Richard Nixon won in 1960, would he be the one who was killed in Dallas?

That leads to another question. If the other candidate won, does he share the same fate as the President who died in office.

In 1940, FDR defeated Wendall Wilkie. FDR as we all know went on to be elected to a fourth term, only to die in April 1945. Had Wilkie been elected, he would have died in June 1944. To make matters more interesting his Wilkie's VP Charles NcNary died in Feb 1944. That would make whoever Wilkie chose as his Secretary of State President. Who would that have been? Arthur Vandenberg? Henry Stimson? Frank Knox?

In 1920 Warren Harding won over James Cox, and died in 1923. But Cox lived until 1957. Is he the first to break the curse of all Presidents elected with a 0 in the year dying in office between 1840 and 1960.

The only exception was Zachary Taylor who was elected in 1848 and died in 1850. President James K. Polk declined to run, but had he been elected to a second term he would have died in 1849.

So, who lives and who dies?

1840 - William Henry Harrison vs. Martin Van Buren (Died 1862)
1860 - Abraham Lincoln vs. Stephen Douglas (1861) and George McClellan (1885)
1880 - James Garfield vs. Winfield Scott Hancock (1886)
1900 - William McKinley vs. William Jennings Bryan (1925)
1920 - Warren Harding vs. James Cox (1957)

To be honest, while having the same events recur in different circumstances is fun for timelines(in mine Oswald shoots LBJ, only in 1960) the Curse of Tippecanoe is not really significant, so in cases where the losing candidate didn't die in OTL in their term, they are not likely to die if they win.

Just as 03771 said Nixon is not going to go to Texas to mend an intra mural Democratic Party feud. It is an annoying cliche to have whomever is president to be killed in Dallas on November 22, 1963.OTL, as far as I know, Oswald killed only two people. hHe is, however, an internet AH serial killer.

The only reason, politically speaking, that Nixon would even be in Texas in 1963 is if he were building up an infrastructure for '64. Eisenhower won the state, so I can see Nixon going there to try and buff up his credentials in 1964 in hopes that LBJ wouldn't be on the Democratic ticket.

This could lead to a parade through Dallas and a lunch at the Trade Mart.

Wendell Willkie would have continued the curse. OTL he died in 1944. I would assume if you increased his job stress, his heart attack may come sooner.
