President Morton/Wheeler

The Republican primaries had a lot of stronger candidates than Rutherford B Hayes. One of them was Oliver P Morton, the Hoosier Senator. In this scenario, Morton gets the nomination, but William Almon Wheeler remains the running mate, and he still beats Samuel J Tilden. However Oliver P Morton would have a stroke in August 1877, and passed away on November 1 1877. Thus the obscure vice president of an already obscure president IOTL becomes president. Within the four years, what might the short term of Oliver Morton and the term of William Wheeler look like compared to Rutherford B Hayes? What kind of accomplishments may they have compared to Hayes? Would Wheeler be able to be nominated or even elected on his own right, and how would 1880 go down in this scenario?
