President McClellan

What would a George B. McClellan presidency actually look like? What would his policy be toward freedmen? Corruption? What's his economic policy like? Personally, I've always seen McClellan as sort of a populist, one who had no real ideology or conviction but was really just interested being president (which btw i think he only wanted to beat Lincoln). Like a Vlad Putin or a Napoleon. What is his policy towards the South if the Union won? If it lost? Would he ever actually recoginize the CSA? Let me know what you think!

Firstly him should win the election. And it is quiet difficult. Lincoln won with pretty big marginal and in many states which McClellan lost he wasn't even close to win.

Honestly it's more the opposite; McClellan believed in moderation and rule by cautious elites, being a conservative Whig as much as anything. He was apparently a pretty efficient administrator during his term as Gov. of New Jersey, so maybe he'd be a good peacetime president.

I think the best chance for a McClellan presidency might be for the Union to win in 1862 with McClellan as general in chief without the abolition of slavery, and then for him to run against Lincoln in the now peacetime 1864 election with a coalition of anti-abolitionists behind him.
