President McCain (2001-2009)

Wow. I was surfing through Althistory Wiki and came across a very detailed and well-thought out scenario of a John McCain presidency from 2001 to 2009.

I have to share!

It's really a TL about a subtle ASB's intervention, forcing a War on Iraq to happen and magicing up Irqi WMDs.

I do have some quibbles, i.e McCain on immigration seems more in line with wishful thinking. The war in Iraq is feasible, basically Rumsfled isn't given the chance to reduce the invasion force to try and make a political point. The argument can be made that more troops at the start of the war would lessen the severity of the insurrection afterwards.

Still, this TL seems to have everying go right for McCain where in real life I doubt that would have been the case.

I'm totally unconvinced that it was the lack of troops that made the Iraq war into a failure. Remember that it was a two fron war, the conventional push from south and a not so conventional push from the north. And the northern area is the sucess story of the whole thing.

What is needed is a big local support base. Either it's there in the first place, bribed in the second place or it's not. It have notheing to do with the size of your army.
