President John Pershing - Any Possibility?

Could the general of the Armies ever have become president of the United States, what party would he have been in? And how would his presidency have turned out. A reason BBC documentary on the final day of WW1 paints him as a man always willing to trade blood for ground even on November 11!

The disarming of the U.S. after WW I would have not been taken to an extreme and the Army would have stayed somewhat larger than in OTL. Also Pershing, after leaving the Presidency, would have spoken out about the danger of a resurgent Germany and might have given Roosevelt enough support to begin rearmament sooner. Pershing knew that the way the Great War ended guaranteed a replay; he, unlike the European Allies (and the fool Wilson--America's worst president), wanted to march through and occupy Germany to let them know they'd been thoroughly defeated. The problem with all this is that Pershing may not have had the political skills to win the Presidency or, if he did win it, to exercise the powers of the office effectively.

I hate to agree with someone who's initials are ASB, but in this case I do, completely. Pershing would probably have made a good wartime president, however.

Pershing would have served two terms no problem. He likely would have had as much scandal as Ulysses S. Grant did during his two terms, with the major officials chosen by other Republican Party officials. In the Domestic Arena, think of Calvin Coolidge.

I thought Pershing was a Democrat...

He self identified as a Republican, probably was that he seemed to closely tied with the Wilson White House, and therefore the Democrats, for Republicans to accept him in 1920. Perhaps somehow he comes to the forefront again in 1928, a later date would allow him to be fully separate from Wilson.

Is Pershing plausible in 1928?

I also wonder this.
