President Joe Martin 1944-

November 1942: Republicans do slightly better in the off year elections and take over the House (they only needed 9 more IOTL).

January 1943: The GOP and conservative Democrats amend succession act to put Speaker 3rd in line.

Early 1943: Vice President Wallace is killed in a plane crash during his tour of Latin America

February 1944: President Roosevelt dies of a stroke

House Speaker Joe Martin (R-MA) becomes President of the United States

Sorry, but in 1944 the 1886 Presidential Succession Act https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Presidential_Succession_Act_1886 is still applicable, so if both the president and vice-president die, the Secretary of State becomes president. It was only with the Act of 1947 that the Speaker of the House came next in line. (Which is why 1947-8 is a very plausible time for a Joe Martin presidency, the vice-presidency being vacant...)

Of course.. I guess I'm tired this morning.

Ok so we change the succession act.. I was going for what the war would be like with a partisan change in the middle
