What if in 1884 the Republican ticket of James G. Blaine and John Alexander Logan had defeated the Democratic ticket of Grover Cleveland and Thomas Hendricks. This would have happened had Blaine carried the State of New York which was lost due to the fact that a minister endorsing Blaine had denounced the Democrats "as the party of Rum, Rebellion, and Romanism" which upset the Catholics in New York and that he had a dinner at Delmoncio's with several prominent businessmen while the nation was at depression.
