So what if Charles Evans Hughes won the 1916 Elections? Would there have been a League of Nations? Possibly. Hughes was an Internationalist. He was also a pro-war Republican so I think he would have gone to war when he finds out about the Zimmerman Telegraph. The 1920 elections would probably be very boring (assuming Cox still runs) despite that the Democratic opponent had an interesting Running Mate. Who would win after Hughes though (assuming he’s a two-termer)? In my opinion, probably Herbert Hoover.
