President Hooker

Lets see, how can we get a President Joseph 'Fighting Joe' Hooker? What would his policies be like? One term or two term? Republicans or Democrats?

This is a man who said during the war "Nothing would go right until we had a dictator, and the sooner the better." That leads me to suspect an Imperial Presidency, or an attempt at one, would not be out of bounds.

Hmm, you know. Speaking of that. What different ways could the Reconstruction Period government had changed? More fascist or less centralized or more socialist or whatever?

If Hooker wins the Battle of Chancellorsville and captures Richmond, which can be done with any number of PODs, he can easily become the 17th President of the United States. As far as his policies are concerned, I would expect a decrease in liquor taxes to be high on the agenda.

Wasn't all those rumors about Hooker being a drunkard and prostitute just rumors?

Basically, he like Grant were men who drank as much as anyone else at the time, they were just lightweights and had trouble holding it as well as other men.

The real thing blocking him from the White House, even in the event of a Richmond Victory, is that his health collapsed after the war, in 1864 he's a one termer, in 1868 he's not going to be able to do anything to get a nomination, much less run with it.

Presidential Candidate Fightin Joe Hooker. Vice Presidental Candidate John McClernand. Watch my TL...

Man, you got some weird tickets coming on your timeline.

This Kearnyism you've come up with is weird, especially considering the massive amount of folks in the North that didn't serve...

Anyway, if we're assuming that Hooker is an 1864 Candidate, because the other options arn't really options. Is he going to be a Democratic party candidate? I'm not sure he can be Lincoln's VP (Maybe if he gets the command he resigned over?) But I can't recall if Hooker was Democratic-leaning. If he was Whig leaning the opposition nomination is basically off the table.
