Henry Ford ran for Senate as a Democrat in 1918 , finishing behind Republican candidate
Truman Newberry . Shortly after the election Newberry was tried under the
Federal Corrupt Practices Act for election irregularities, and although the conviction was overturned by the United States Supreme Court in
Newberry vs. United States and a Senate investigation found him entitled to his seat, Newberry resigned his seat in 1922.
Given how close the election was and Newberry's troubles after winning, what if Henry Ford had won the Senate race? Could he have gone on to have a prominent career in politics, perhaps even running for President?
