President George Armstrong Custer

I might have a thread in a similar vein here. If I do, it's probably closed.
There's a theory that Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, (Brv. Maj.
Gen.), wanted to run for President in 1876, and that the Battle of the Little
Bighorn, (Greasy Grass, to the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho), if it had been successful, would have propelled Custer to victory in the 1876 presidential election. The title's correct. So now the question: What if Custer
had survived the Battle of Little Bighorn, and ran for President?

I once saw a movie, back in the 1960s, where Custer had his eye on the White House, and this is why he acted so brashly when chasing after the Sioux. he was trying to win a great victory, so as to use it to springboard him to the no. 1 presidential contender. Obviously the story took some liberties with history. No matter how smashing a victory Custer might theoretically have won, he could hardly expect to be immediately released from active duty, to rush east and go to a party convention and get the nomination. I mean, they could not even get back to Fort Abraham Lincoln before mid-July at the earliest.

There are several movies about Custer: They Died With Their Boots On,
(1941), with Erroll Flynn as Custer, Little Big Man, Custer of the Plains, The Court-Martial of George Armstrong Custer, a 1977 alternate history
telefilm based on the book by the same name, and Son of the Morning Star, a 1991 telefilm about the Battle of Little Bighorn. Custer knew he was going to die and sent his scouts away.
