President Dewey

This may have come up before. Dewey defeats Truman in 1948. Who will the Democratics put up in 1952? What will be the political consequences for both parties, since conservative Democrats will hardly go flocking to the Republican party at that time period, like they did in 1964. Will Eisenhower succeed Dewey, especially if Dewey has 2 terms?

I think the dems would still nominate Stevenson in 1952, unless Truman decided to pull a clevland and run again, but I don't see that happening. Depending on how Dewey handles the economy and Korea, he could be elected to a second-term. Eisenhower wouldn't run in 1956, since his heath wasn't so good then, and if he isn't the incumbent, he wouldn't have insentive.

Maybe Earl Warren would run in 1956.

I had begun writing a TL where Dewey won in 1948. He began sent our boys into China to prop up the Nationalists, with the line of control for the most part following the Yangtze River. The Korean War starts in 1951 instead when the PLA aids them. From 1952-1953, the UN-led force begins a rollback to the Yalu River, where an armistance is agreed upon. Dewey opts out of running for a second term in 1952, aiding in giving the nomination to Dwight Eisenhower.

The other POD in that timeline was that the Dixiecrats never rejoined with the Democratic Party and became their own Party.
