Could George Deukmejian have had a realistic shot at becoming president? Are their any realistic scenarios for his entering the oval office?
The recession was an excuse for Bush's violation of the 8-year switch to be changed.I don't know much about Deukmejian, but maybe Dukakis wins in 1988 then loses in 1992 in the aftermath of the '91 recession. Deukmejian wins, perhaps with Carroll Campbell as his VP. Republicans retake Congress in 1992.
Could Dukakis have possibly beat Bush for the Republican nomination in '88 or '92?
