President Charles Evan Hughes

What if in the 1916 US Presidential Election the Republican ticket of Charles Evan Hughes and Charles W. Fairbanks had defeated the Democratic ticket of Woodrow Wilson and Thomas R. Marshall? Only the state of California had to change for Hughes to be elected President. Would Hughes have entered World War I like Wilson?

Here's how I see it: If Charles Hughes is elected, and inaugurated as the 28th President on March 4, 1917, we do not enter WWI. Therefore, Germany can somehow win WWI. No Nazi Germany. Perhaps we could even butterfly Hitler to death in a trench somewhere, instead of in a bunker in 1945. After all, Hitler began the Nazi Party because of Germany's defeat in WWI, and certainly wouldn't have if Germany won the war. Overall, I think it would be so wonderful if Wilson weren't re-elected, let alone elected. Roosevelt 1912! :D
