Bush dies in surgery, Cheney takes oath
Washington, D.C.- President George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, died yesterday while undergoing a colonoscopy at the Camp David presidential retreat. During surgery, the President suffered a gastrointestinal perforation. Despite efforts by the surgical team, Bush died shortly after. Vice President Richard "Dick" Cheney, who had already been appointed as Acting President, was sworn in at 9:30 yesterday, less than an hour after the President's death. Former First Lady Laura Bush is being flown in from Midland, Texas, where she had been visiting relatives, and will be accompanied by former President George H.W. Bush.
